Deborah Lundmark, Founder and Artistic Director, ranks among Canada’s leading specialists in movement for the young with over thirty years’ experience as both a Royal Academy of Dance ballet instructor and a supervisor of teachers-in-training. Ms. Lundmark began her training with Sonja Barton in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and while still in high school opened her first dance studio. There she met Ryerson University’s Sonia Chamberlain, an RAD Examiner, who invited her to join the first year of the Ryerson Theatre School in 1970. 

Ms. Lundmark founded her own School in 1983 where she has mentored the studio’s second and third generations of teachers, some of whom began as children in her creative movement classes. She also has developed and taught curriculum-related dance material, playing a key role in co-designing and delivering the Toronto District School Board’s long-running Drama/Dance Project and was a Ryerson Polytechnic faculty member specializing in teacher training for creative dance from 1994 to 2000.

Her School’s international summer program, SunDance, has enjoyed an exclusive two-decade-long association with the Royal Academy of Dance and more recently she founded ignite!, a second international summer intensive with a focus on choreographic process for emerging artists.  

Ms. Lundmark’s students have gone on to train and perform with some of the world’s foremost schools and companies including Juilliard, The Limon Dance Company, Random Dance and Mark Morris Dance Group and to found their own companies in the US, Europe and Canada.

For more than thirty years she has been Artistic Director and Senior Outreach Teacher for her Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre performing company. Touring nationally and abroad with CCDT, Deborah has shared her expertise with teachers, students and audiences from Barrie to Beijing.


Carmen Duncan
Associate Director, School of CCDT
Dip RBS (TC) AISTD Mod, Cecc & Nat, CBMN

Born in England, Carmen began her training at the Arts Educational School, Tring continuing on to the Royal Ballet School, London to gain her teaching qualifications. From there she has proceeded to teach internationally, maintaining close connections with the Royal Ballet through her work at their annual Summer Schools, Associate Programmes and often working at the Royal Opera House with students involved in the Nutcracker.

An interest in Notation has seen her complete a 2-year correspondence course in Benesh Notation, and this summer she graduates with a BA in Dance Education in her pursuit to continue her own education in tandem with that of her students.

While in Cyprus she coached many students through their RAD and ISTD exams taking pride in her commitment to train a new generation of intellectually vibrant dancers.

Currently Miss Duncan is residing in Canada teaching ballet and is the Associate Director of the School of CCDT


Meredith Thompson

Meredith is a native of Huntsville, Ontario who now works as an independent dance artist based in Toronto.  Following graduation from York University's Department of Fine Arts (2000), she began working with the Danny Grossman Dance Company where she has since enjoyed performing in a number of Mr. Grossman's signature works, as well as that of David Earle, the Clichettes, and American dance pioneers Anna Sokolow and Paul Taylor.  Meredith continues to work with Danny Grossman Dance as a teacher, rehearsal director and performer of the Grossman Collection.  Recently Meredith toured to Mexico with Santee Smith's Kaha:wi Dance Theatre and she has been touring with Dusk Dances for four consecutive summers. Meredith has also had the great pleasure of working with Dancetheatre David Earle on many occasions, dancing in both new works and the revival of some of Mr. Earle's classics, as well as with a number of other notable choreographers and artists including Trish Beatty, Sylvie Bouchard, Yvonne Ng, Lydia Wagerer and more.  Her own work has been presented as part of Dusk Dances, the Edge of the Woods Theatre Festival, the Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival, and Up Darling.  Fond of teaching and young people, Meredith has also worked extensively as a teaching artist with the Toronto District School Board and is currently on faculty at George Brown Dance, as well as Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre.  She is currently the CCDT Young Apprentice Program Director.


Nicole Nigro
Creative Movement, Modern, Ballet

Nicole is an independent contemporary dance artist. She is a performer, teacher and emerging choreographer. She began her dance training in Edmonton, Alberta and has since graduated from The School of Toronto Dance Theatre, and obtained an Honours BFA in Dance from York University. She has had the privilege of dancing as a guest artist with The Danny Grossman Dance Company, Toronto Dance Theatre, Dance Theatre David Earle, Peggy Baker Dance Projects and various independent choreographers. Nicole is currently on faculty at Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre, The Living Arts Centre and The School of Toronto Dance Theatre. She believes dance is a dynamic communicative force through which we can develop understanding and connection with our fellow human beings. Thus her teaching is not only geared towards the development of dance artists, but also the development of human beings, and she continually strives to bring generosity, kindness, skill, and joy into the classroom.  Nicole is currently the Director of the CCDT Core Apprentice Program.


Ryan Scheel
Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop

Ryan Scheel has been involved in the performance industry since a young age. A graduate of the Sheridan Institute Musical Theatre Performance Program, he's performed in numerous stage productions including Oliver, JCS, Brigadoon, Hello Dolly, The Music Man, No No Nannette, HSM2, Annie, Anne of Green Gables, Hairspray and Peter Pan. He has travelled around the world as an assistant choreographer and dancer on Norwegian and Celebrity Cruise lines. Other appearances include PARTY MAMA’S (SLICE), Shawn Desmans “Electric/ Night Like This” music video, OUTTV’s Live Launch, Ralph Lauren Fragrance promos as well as the hit TV show BOMB GIRLS. He has performed frequently as a singer with Mandell Entertainment with the Bell Celebrity Gala and the Toronto Dance Bazaar. Ryan was the Coordinator/Assistant Choreographer/Dancer in PSY’s “Gentleman” Performance for the Much Music Video Awards and most recently worked with the Queen of Pop, Madonna. With his extensive training in Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Song and Dance, Tap and Strength Training, he has become a renowned choreographer for numerous studios teaching for recreational & competitive students, multiple dance competitions and numerous workshops throughout Ontario. He is as a highly qualified dance adjudicator with his certification by The International Academy of Dance Adjudication (I.A.D.A). He is beyond ecstatic to be teaching the Jazz, Tap and Musical Theatre at the Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre and part of the talented faculty. Ryan encourages dancers to achieve the best and to STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE!!!
