Dear Audience Members,
This past spring — seemingly a lifetime ago — we reached out to you lamenting the gulf that had opened between us on the eve of CCDT’s 40th anniversary. But as quickly as the pandemic stripped away our freedom to physically connect, it provoked an impassioned search for alternatives.
From late March through July, we pivoted from studio and stage to screen, engaging our dancers in continued training, creative processes, and video projects. From a virtual tour of Teasing Gravity 2020 and the release of our CCDT On Stage video instalment, to Artistic Director Deborah Lundmark’s short dance film Urbanecho in collaboration with Dr. Draw and the first-ever SunDance Online summer dance intensive, no moment was spared in seeking ways to move, create, connect, and innovate during this period of forced isolation.
Since September we have reopened the 509 DANCE building with excitement and cautious optimism for the year ahead. These past weeks have seen the safe return of our company members and artistic team to the studio as we step back into cultivating the next generation of professional dance artists, and curating a vibrant season of in-person and online offerings to reach audiences worldwide.
While the path ahead remains somewhat obscured and tumultuous, our commitment to dance and the arts will provide a guiding light, no matter what twists and turns lay ahead. We hope you will continue to brave the journey with us, and be flexible.
Here is a glimpse of CCDT’s reimagined 2020/2021 Season, celebrating 40 years!

Bringing our solstice celebration to your home
A longstanding seasonal tradition, our annual WinterSong production has warmed the hearts of audiences for over three decades. This coming December, while we await our safe return to the stage, we invite you to join us online to honour this breathtaking trapestry of seasonal dance inspired by the world's rich solstice traditions. With digital dance content from the archives alongside with new dance film creations, this year's virtual WinterSong offerings aspire to bring the joy of the winter solstice to audiences near and far.
Nowell Sing We
Explore our online portal commemorating celebrated Canadian dance artist Carol Anderson's iconic Nowell Sing We, a beloved staple since the inaugural 1988 WinterSong. Nowell has been featured in every WinterSong production, bringing together CCDT dancers of all ages on stage together in a work that conveys community and celebration in an idealized, more innocent medieval world. Enjoy archival photos, artist reflections, video excerpts from the work's 32-year history showcasing CCDT dancers through the decades, and more!
Virtual Watch Party
Don't miss CCDT's first-ever WinterSong Virtual Watch Party -- a LIVE online event! The livestream will include screenings of full works from past performances, our new Nowell Sing We video tribute, and the premiere of new short dance films by CCDT Artistic Director Deborah Lundmark and 2020/21 Artist-in-Residence Alyssa Martin. Get to know the 2020/2021 Company Dancers through a behind-the-scenes look at our return to the studio, as we continue to find joy in movement and artistic discoveries, undeterred by these unprecedented times.
