Dear Audience Members,
The disorienting impact of the pandemic has forced a challenging adjustment upon us all. As artists, it has indefinitely isolated us from you. It has left us acutely reminded that however satisfying and fulfilling we may find the many months of our creative process, it, and we, are only made complete during the hours in which we may share it with you.
As a company whose essence is connecting with every age and origin in every imaginable setting, we look at our crashing wave of twenty-five cancelled performances this spring in stunned disbelief and disappointment. Among these were an extensive tour of Teasing Gravity, scheduled to illuminate seven stages across Ontario; an appearance at Songs of the City, the United Way Greater Toronto’s celebratory donor thank-you event at the Winter Garden Theatre; five performances of Charles Moulton's famous Nine Person Precision Ball Passing at the 59th Toronto Outdoor Art Fair; and, perhaps the most heartbreaking of all, our highly anticipated presentation of Gravity’s Edge, celebrating CCDT’s 40th Anniversary at our second home, Harbourfront’s Fleck Dance Theatre.
Despite these losses, we recognize that our experience is far from singular. We are grateful for and proud of the artistic community’s creativity and generosity, as we have seen artists and arts organizations band together for support through this uncertainty. We have witnessed the incredible power of digital platforms providing the means for us to stay connected and to keep sharing dance from the comfort (or perhaps confinement) of our homes, and that even in the darkest of times, we remain resilient. The critical role and value of the arts in our communities is apparent now more than ever, as the world attempts to cope and heal.
While eagerly awaiting our return to the studio and stage, we invite you to scroll down to learn more about our efforts to continue sharing with you from afar, in the form of digital dances, video excerpts, reflections on past and present repertoire, and more.
Finally, we are delighted to announce revised plans for a vibrant 2020/2021 Season that will indeed celebrate CCDT’s milestone 40th Anniversary, kicking off with an extended run of WinterSong 2020 to include a special one-night engagement at FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton this December.
Thank you for your continued support as we navigate this difficult time. Stay home, stay safe... but let us keep dancing together.
With Heartfelt Gratitude,
Deborah Lundmark & Michael deConinck Smith
