Each year Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre invites young dancers, ages 8-19, to audition for the upcoming season, beginning in September. CCDT dancers come from a variety of training, cultural, and economic backgrounds but all share a passion for the expressive power and range of modern and contemporary dance choreography that is created by leading dance artists on them and for them.
Auditioning dancers may be accepted into:
the CCDT Company (with full training, rehearsal, and performance/touring responsibilities)
the CCDT Company as an Apprentice (with full training and rehearsal responsibilities, and partial performance/touring responsibilities)
the Young Apprentice Program
the Core Apprentice Program
CCDT's SunDance Summer Dance Intensive*

For more information on SunDance click here.
*dancers accepted to CCDT's Company or Apprentice Programs receive automatic acceptance to SunDance.
Company membership brings many benefits, at no cost, including:
professionally produced local and touring performances including two weeks at Fleck Dance Theatre, Canada’s leading dance venue
two weekly company modern/contemporary technique classes with SCCDT faculty and renowned guest teachers
one weekly C-I Training™ class for strengthening, stretching, aligning, and injury prevention
creation and rehearsal with internationally recognized choreographers
unmatched preparation for entry to performing arts programs, conservatories, and dance careers
paid performance weeks
and, of course, making life-long friends
Company members commit to an 11-month season. From September through May they rehearse, perform and take 7-8 dance classes per week* (approximately 20-25 weekly hours in studio). In June members participate in The School of CCDT's annual showcase, and in July new and returning dancers attend our three-week international SunDance summer intensive* in preparation for the following season. Company dancers are also expected to participate in fundraising initiatives throughout the year.
Auditioning dancers between the ages of 8 and 13 may be accepted into the Young Apprentice Program or the Core Apprentice Program.† These programs provide an opportunity for gifted young dancers to enhance their artistry with other young dancers who share their love for dance. Many CCDT dancers begin as Young or Core Apprentices, moving up the tiers of our pre-professional training programs to eventually join the Company as full members.
*While the Company strives to offer as many free training, rehearsal, and performance opportunities as possible, our members' School of CCDT technique classes (outside of the two weekly company modern/contemporary classes and one weekly C-I Training™ class) and SunDance registration are at the dancer's own expense. Exceptional dancers in need of financial assistance may be eligible for scholarship to SCCDT.
†Skill level, ability, and experience are considered alongside age to determine program placement at the time of audition. Dancers ages 12-13 who demonstrate advanced level ability may be considered for full Company Apprenticeship.
