We encourage young dancers to live their passion and dance with us.

Founded by longtime CCDT Artistic Associate Arwyn Carpenter, the Young Apprentice and Core Apprentice Programs provide a taste of what it's like to dance with a company, allowing young dancers (ages 8 and up) to begin to test out their dreams. From September to May each year YAP and Core dancers participate in one modern dance technique class, one C-I Training™ class, and one repertoire creation session each Saturday in preparation for a December showcase at the studio and a professionally produced performance at Fleck Dance Theatre, Harbourfront Centre in May. These activities are covered by CCDT.  All YAP and Core members also enroll in 2-3 ballet classes and one additional modern class throughout the week, offered through The School of CCDT. In June members participate in The School's annual showcase, and in July all new and returning Apprentices attend our three-week SunDance summer dance intensive in preparation for the upcoming season. These activities offer the most thorough preparation available for entry to performing arts schools, potential membership in the CCDT company itself, and future pursuits in the performing arts.

Acceptance to CCDT's Apprentice Programs is by annual audition only. Each Program is directed by an experienced professional dance artist, and guest choreographers are invited to create new works each year for the May showcase.  Young Apprentices are paired with a Core Apprentice and a Company dancer in a mentoring relationship each year. Many Apprentices have gone on to dance alongside their mentors as full Company dancers.  One of the greatest benefits of membership always has been the lasting friendships that are formed through these unique experiences.
