We encourage young dancers to live their passion and dance with us.
Founded by longtime CCDT Artistic Associate, Arwyn Carpenter, the Young Apprentice and Core Apprentice Programs provide a taste of what it's like to dance with a company, allowing dancers as young as age 8 to begin to test out their dreams.
Apprentice Program membership brings many benefits, at no cost, including:
A minimum of 3 professionally produced performances each season, including a spring presentation at Fleck Dance Theatre, one of Canada’s leading dance venues
one weekly repertoire and creation session
one weekly Modern technique class with Company Directors (supplementing weekly ballet and modern technique classes at the School of CCDT*)
one weekly Conditioning Class for strength, flexibility, alignment, injury prevention, and mental health support
comprehensive preparation for entry to performing arts programs, potential CCDT full company membership, and future pursuits in the performing arts
mentorship from senior dancers, and making life-long friends
Apprentice Program dancers commit to an 11-month season. In July, new and returning dancers attend CCDT's three-week international SunDance summer intensive in preparation for the upcoming season. From September to June, YAP and Core dancers take at least five weekly dance classes* (ballet and modern techniques), rehearse repertoire and participate in the creation of new works, and perform in a minimum of three professional productions.
Acceptance to CCDT's Apprentice Programs is through annual audition only. Each Program is directed by an experienced professional dance artist, and guest choreographers are invited to create new works each year. Young Apprentices are paired with a Core Apprentice and a Company dancer in a mentoring relationship each year. Many Apprentices have gone on to dance alongside their mentors as full Company dancers. One of the greatest benefits of membership always has been the lasting friendships that are formed through these unique experiences.

*While CCDT strives to offer as many free training opportunities as possible, our members' School of CCDT technique classes (excluding weekly conditioning and repertoire exclusive to Apprentice Program members) and SunDance registration are at the dancer's own expense. Exceptional dancers in need of financial assistance may be eligible for SCCDT scholarship.
**While age is a strong guideline, the dancer's skill level, ability, and experience are considered alongside their age to determine program placement at the time of audition.
